The official history of the geographic name Souris (which can be somewhat technical, we admit):

Souris (Town) was incorporated in 1910.Confirmed in Place Names of PEI, 1925 a nd 7 January 1947 on 11L/8.Changed to Souris (Souris East P.O.-B. de p.)(Town) 7 April 1949 on C. 4419.Name changed to Souris (Town) 8 December 1966 on 11L/ 8. "The reference is to mice, of which there were three plagues here between 1720 a nd 1738."- PN of PEI, 1925.
