The official history of the geographic name Bedeque (which can be somewhat technical, we admit):
Bedeque was adopted in Place Names of PEI, 1925.Changed 31 December 1978. (1) Indian word meaning "sunny camping place" - Major Wright, postmaster, 1905. (2) Corruption of Micmac Indian name meaning "the hot place" - Place Names of P EI, 1925.
