The official history of the geographic name Belle River (which can be somewhat technical, we admit):

Belle River (Sett.) at 45 59 - 62 49 and Belle Creek (Sett.) at 45 59 -62 50 wer e adopted 6 May 1947 on C. 4405.Belle River (Sett.) and Belle Creek (Sett.) am algamated 21 November 1966 on 11E/15 to become Belle River (Belle Creek P.O. - B . de p.)(Sett.).Name change to Belle River (Sett.) 4 January 1967 on 11E/15. Status changed to Locality when Belle River became part of the Community of Belf ast in 1972.
