The official history of the geographic name Borden (which can be somewhat technical, we admit):

Carleton Point (Town) changed to Borden (Town) in 1916.(Never official). Borde n (Town) was incorporated in 1919.Borden (Town) was confirmed in Place Names of PEI, 1925.Port Borden (Town) was adopted in error 2 August 1944 on 11 L/5 and appeared on 11 L/5 & 21 I/8 (1944) and 11 L/5, ed.2. Although letters and memos on file say that the dual name Borden (Port Borden P. O.)(Town) was adopted, no decision can be found.Borden (Town) became Borden (P ort Borden P.O.) (Town) 31 December 1989 on 11 L/4 and11 L/5.Status change d to Locality when Borden (Town) and Carleton Siding (Community) became part of the Community of Borden-Carleton by EC 269/95.Port Borden (P.O.) was confirmed as the post office for this community 29 May 1996 on 11 L/5.
