History of the Name

The official history of the geographic name Bunbury (which can be somewhat technical, we admit):

Bunbury (Sett.) was adopted in Place Names of PEI, 1925. Confirmed 12 December 1 939 on 11L/3 at 46 14 - 63 04.Status changed to Station in 1960 Gazetteer.Bu nbury (NOT Bunberry NOR Clifton) (Sett.) was altered to 46 14 - 63 05 on 18 Nove mber 1966 on 11L/3h.Status changed to Community in 1969. Status changed to locality and confirmed on 17 June 1996 on 11L/3. Said to have been the name given to his homestead by John Bovyer, Loyalist and s ettler, after his ancestral home in Bunbury, Cheshire, England.See also Bovyer Creek - Place Names of PEI, 1925.
