History of the Name

The official history of the geographic name Churchill (which can be somewhat technical, we admit):

Churchill (Sett.) was adopted in Place Names of PEI, 1925 in Lot 30. Confirmed 12 December 1939 on 11L/3 at 46 13 - 63 21.Application altered 21 November 1966 on 11L/3 to 46 13 - 63 20 (about 1/2 mile to the east) in Lot 65.Status changed to Locality in 1973 Gazetteer. Status confirmed as Locality when it became part of the Community of New Haven-Riverdale in 1974. "Named after Rt. Hon. Winston Spencer Churchill Glater SirO, British Cabinet Minister Glater Prime MinisterO; war correspondent in South Africa when the name was given, 1900.A post office from 1 November 1900 to 6 December 1913."- Place Names of PEI, 1925.
