The official history of the geographic name Darnley (which can be somewhat technical, we admit):
Darnley (Sett.) was adopted in Place Names of PEI, 1925.Confirmed 2 August 1944 on 11L/12.Status changed to Locality in 1960 Gazetteer.Status confirmed as Locality when Darnley became part of the Community of Malpeque Bay in 1973. Named after Charles Lennox, 3rd Duke of Richmond and Lennox. - PN of PEI, 1925.
