History of the Name

The official history of the geographic name Hamilton (which can be somewhat technical, we admit):

Hamilton (Sett., P.O.) was adopted in Place names of PEI, 1925. Hamilton (Sett.) was confirmed 2 August 1944 on 11L/5.Status changed to Locality in 1960 Gazetteer.Status confirmed as Locality when Hamilton became part of the Community of malpeque Bay in 1973. Name selected at a public meeting on 22 February 1869 to replace the two names Oyster Cove and Shipyard. - PN of PEI, 1925.
