History of the Name

The official history of the geographic name Hampton (which can be somewhat technical, we admit):

Hampton (Set., P.O.) was adopted in Place Names of PEI, 1925. Confirmed 12 December 1939 on 11L/3.Status changed to Hamlet in the 1960 Gazetteer and to D.R. Comm. in the 1973 Gazetteer. Status changed to Locality 23 October 1989 on 203-8. Named about 1865 by Mrs. James McPhail, from New Brunswick, Probably after Hampton, Kings County, New Brunswick - PN of PEI, 1925.
