The official history of the geographic name Little York (which can be somewhat technical, we admit):
York (Little York P.O.) (Sett.) was adopted in Place Names of PEI, 1925.Change d to Little York (Sett.) and York (Sta.) 12 December 1939 on 11L/6, both at 46 1 9 - 63 06.Confirmed as Little York (Sett.) in 1960 Gazetteer. Name changed to dual name of York (Little York P.O.) (Sett.) 18 November 1966 on 11L/6a.Became part of the Community of York in 1986. So named because first settlers were from Yorkshire, England. (Postmaster, 1905. )
