The official history of the geographic name Lorne Valley (which can be somewhat technical, we admit):
Lorne valley (P.O.) was open from 1 November 1896 to 1 May 1914. Lorne Valley (Sett.) was adopted in Place Names of PEI, 1925. Confirmed 3 December 1946 on 11L/7.Status changed to D.R. Comm. in 1973 Gazetteer.Status changed to Locality when Lorne Valley became part of the Community of Lorne Valley in 1978. Named in 1881 after the Marquis of Lorne, Governor General of Canada from 1878 to 1883.
