History of the Name

The official history of the geographic name Murray Harbour (which can be somewhat technical, we admit):

Murray Harbour (Sett., P.O.) was adopted in Place Names of PEI, 1925. Status changed to Village 25 April 1946 on 11L/2.Incorporated as a Village in 1953.Status changed to Community by the Municipalities Act in 1983.Named after General the Honourable James Murray, (1725-94), Governor of Quebec (1764-66).
