History of the Name

The official history of the geographic name North Bedeque (which can be somewhat technical, we admit):

North Bedeque (Sett.) was adopted in Place Names of PEI, 1925. Confirmed 2 August 1944 on 11L/5.Status changed to Locality in 1960 Gazetteer.Status confirmed as Locality 23 October 1989 on 203-8. Bedeque is a corruption of the Micmac name "Epteck" meaning "the hot place".- PN of PEI, 1925.
