History of the Name

The official history of the geographic name North River (which can be somewhat technical, we admit):

Yorke River was adopted 12 December 1939 on 11L/6 and confirmed 6 May 1947 on C.4405. Changed to North (Yorke) River 18 November 1966 on 11L/6b. Changed to North River 7 January 1971 on 11LSW. Headwaters at 46 20 - 63 15 on 11L/6.
