About the Population Secretariat

The Population Secretariat was established in 2004 to promote Prince Edward Island as a safe and welcoming area to live, work, play and study. The Population Secretariat’s mandate is to retain youth, repatriate former Islanders and attract and retain immigrants.

Prince Edward Island offers a safe and welcoming environment where the air and water are fresh and clean. Prince Edward Island offers rewarding career opportunities and a supportive business environment - one where you live and work minutes from world-class recreation. In short, Prince Edward Island offers a lifestyle that provides a healthy balance between work, family and fun.

Most importantly, we know that Prince Edward Island is a place you will love as much as we do.

The Population Secretariat has gradually begun to expand the population of Prince Edward Island through retention, repatriation, and immigration with an eventual goal of one and a half per cent increase in population per year. Although this goal is ambitious, we feel that it is realistic and we are working to achieve this result.

Many choose to settle in Prince Edward Island because of the quality of life, slower tempo, affordable housing and friendly people. It is clear that the message is getting out due to the increasing number of immigrants who are choosing Prince Edward Island as their home.

Prince Edward Island welcomes the cultural diversity of newcomers, assists in the healthy development of Island youth and always welcomes Islanders wishing to return home. The Population Secretariat is committed to population growth and recognizes the importance of an economically, socially and culturally-diverse Prince Edward Island.
