Hometown Heros are among usYou may know them as colleagues, but to their neighbours, family and friends, they are Hometown Heros working to advance and protect communities, close to home and across the country.
You just can't hide that hometown pride
Billy MacKendrick and Jo-anne Wallace (centre) hoist the Kraft Hockeyville Cup
For the past year, there has been no such thing as work-life balance for Jo-anne Wallace and Bill MacKendrick, both of Kraft Hockeyville (O'Leary). But they are not complaining. In fact, they have been helping to make dreams come true - for their community.
Wallace's pay stub indicates that she's sport, rec and physical activity coordinator in western PEI (Department of Health and Wellness) and MacKendrick is an agriculture information technician. However, this year, they have been better known as two of the Fab Five who spearheaded the drive to become Kraft Hockeyville.
Jo-anne and Bill - thank you for your hard work and for demonstrating that anything is possible on Prince Edward Island - the Mighty Island.
PEI forest firefighters take the heat in BC
The PEI/Newfoundland fire team including Nick and Jeff Thompson, Anthony and Shamus Koughan, Coady Scott, Corey Adams, Mitch MacMillan, Corey Doucette, Jason MacEachern, Jeff Hannam, Matt McIver and Andrew Ing pose for a group selfie by Newfoundland team member, Stephanie, in smokey British Columbia.
In July, a dozen employees including 11 forest firefighters and one liason of the Department of Communities, Land and Environment, travelled to British Columbia to help fight wildfires in the province. Staff were part of a joint PEI/Newfoundland fire team and the largest-ever group of forest firefighters sent to a national emergency. Later in August, a team of four returned to help with fires in Prince George, BC.
Interestingly, two teams of brothers - Jeff and Nick Thompson along with Shamus and Anthony Koughan - were members of the Island contingent.
To each of you, a huge salute for your selflessness in answering the call of duty for the citizens of BC.
