Supports for People with Disabilities
The Social Programs division provides supports and services to people with disabilities in Prince Edward Island to help them enjoy a good quality of life. The division also partners with many community organizations across the province that extend services in the areas of transportation, housing, job training and recreation.

Disability Support Program
The Disability Support Program (DSP) is the first program in Canada to distinguish disability-specific support from income support. The purpose of DSP is to assist with personal planning and to help meet the needs related to an individual's disability. These supports are needs-based, and they are not intended to provide income. For more information, see the Disability Support Program Policy Manual.
Supports are provided in three main areas: child disability supports, adult disability supports, and employment and vocational supports.
Supports can take a number of different forms, including support for respite care, community living and community participation supports, technical aids and other devices and family support programs.

Social Assistance Program
The Social Assistance Program helps Islanders meet their basic needs by providing income for food, clothing, shelter, medical, optical, child care and dental expenses. These benefits are provided on a case-by-case basis to Islanders who meet the program eligibility requirements. Contact us for more information.
Child Care Subsidy
Sometimes parents need help covering the cost of child care so they can work or attend training programs, or because their child has specific needs.
The Child Care Subsidy Program covers all or part of the cost of child care in licensed child care centres, nursery programs, Early Years Centres, family daycare homes, and at before- and after- school programs. The subsidy rate varies, depending on the size of the family, age of children and the household's income. Contact us for more information.
