Community Partners

The Department of Community Services and Seniors partners with a number of non-government organizations that extend a variety of services to Islanders and families. The services extended by funded organizations correspond with the Department's mandate, vision, strategic plan and legislated requirements.

In 2012-13, the following organizations received community grants to assist Islanders and families:


Big Brothers - Big Sisters of PEI

A charitable organization governed by a volunteer board, Big Brothers - Big Sisters of PEI matches a child to a volunteer who provides friendship and mentoring.

 

Boys and Girls Club

The Boys and Girls Club offers a safe, supportive place where children and youth can experience new opportunities, overcome barriers, build positive relationships and develop confidence and life skills.

 

Catholic Family Services Bureau

The Catholic Family Services Bureau provides professional consultation on relationship issues. It offers individual and group counselling services to parents with children who are experiencing marital and family problems, difficulties in parenting their child(ren), or problems with child custody arrangements. This agency now provides group treatment programs for children and youth exposed to domestic violence in their homes as well as play therapy, a specialized counselling service for young children.

 

Family Service PEI

Family Service PEI is a new agency which represents the amalgamation of the former Prince County Family Services Bureau and Community Services Bureau P.E.I. It offers individual, family, marital, child management and credit counselling, as well as educational programs.

 

Girl Guides of Canada

Girl Guides of Canada makes a positive difference in the lives of girls and women. It is an organization that enables girls to be confident, resourceful and courageous, and to make a difference in the world.

 

P.E.I. Family Violence Prevention Services

P.E.I. Family Violence Prevention Services is a community-based organization that provides shelter to abused women and their children. It also provides community outreach services to people experiencing family violence in their homes. In addition, this organization promotes public education and prevention.

 

P.E.I. Federation of Foster Families

The Federation of Foster Families represents foster families across PEI and provides support as well as training and educational opportunities.

 

P.E.I. Rape and Sexual Assault Centre

The Rape and Sexual Assault Centre provides support for victims of sexual assault and abuse and community education and prevention. 

 

Salvation Army Home Heating Program

The Salvation Army Home Heating Program supports low-income Island families with their heating costs in emergency situations.

 

Scouts Canada - PEI Chapter

Scouts Canada contributes to the education of young people to help build a better world where people are self-fulfilled as individuals and play a constructive role in society.
