Foster Families
Every day, foster families across Prince Edward Island open their homes and their hearts to children who need safe and loving homes. They care for children until they can be safely reunited with their families, until they can be adopted by another family, or until they are old enough to live independently.
The Foster Care Program provides day-to-day care for children and young people in the custody and guardianship of the Director of Child Protection. The legal status of the children may be temporary, permanent, voluntary or court-ordered.
The Prince Edward Island Federation of Foster Families is an important partner of the Department of Community Services and Seniors whose members volunteer their time to help recruit, train, and share experiences with foster families across the province.
Foster parents are all ages and are single, common-law, married, and GLBT. They provide care for children of all ages for temporary or longer-term stays.
