FCHP - DEPENDANT STUDENTS LIVING AWAY FROM HOME |

PURPOSE
1. To reduce hardship to applicants who have dependant children attending an educational program away from home.
PRINCIPLE
2. Children in full-time attendance at a post-secondary institution are considered wholly or substantially dependent upon their parents.
3. Income tax and student loan provisions acknowledge a continuing dependency relationship on the parents.
POLICY
4. Applicants may continue to receive the FCHP allowance for "dependant" children who are attending a post-secondary educational institution on a full-time basis and who live away from home.
PROCEDURE
5. Refer to Instruction 4-5 for definition of a "full-time" dependent student.
