Child and Family Services

Child and Family Services provides a broad range of services to promote the safety and well-being of the residents of Prince Edward Island.

These services are directed towards: protecting the rights and well-being of children where efforts of the family have been unsuccessful; providing supports for individuals and families who lack the resources to deal with crisis events/situations in their lives; strengthening family and community resources to increase the capacity of individuals and/or families for more independent functioning.

Many of the responsibilities of this service are determined by legislation passed by the Prince Edward Island Government. The Child Protection Act and the Adoption Act provide the mandate for the majority of services offered.
