Autism Early Intervention Program
Where can I find information about the Autism Early Intervention Program? The Autism Early Intervention Program is coordinated by the Provincial Autism/Early Intervention Consultant. The Preschool Autism IBI Service, offered through the Department of Social Services and Seniors, provides up to 20 hours per week of behaviorally-based intervention for preschool children with an autism spectrum disorder. Preschool Autism Specialists work with each family/child to develop, implement and monitor individualized and developmentally sequenced programs. The overall goal of the service is to increase skills in all developmental domains including the areas of knowledge, personal independence and social interaction. Families can arrange to have therapy occur at home and/or at an early childhood centre. Tutors are hired by the family to deliver the programs on a daily basis. Funding is available through the Disability Support Program to cover some of the costs associated with the tutors salary, materials needed for the program and respite.
