Provincial Assets Disposal
The Provincial Properties Section is charged with the responsibility of disposing of surplus land and buildings on behalf of most government agencies and departments. These may include abandoned road beds, parcels of land deemed surplus to provincial needs, including properties seized for non payment of taxes which do not sell at public auction, surplus buildings including houses and barns acquired when purchasing land for highways and or capital projects.
Assets are generally disposed of through the Public Tender process whereby advertisements appear in all local papers giving particulars of the proposed disposal. Where a parcel of land does not meet planning or access regulations it may be offered to adjoining landowners by means of an invited tender. Abandoned road beds are disposed off in accordance with the Roads Act RSPEI Cap. R-15 s. 24 to 26. Buildings are disposed of by means of the public tender process generally for removal from the lands. In the event a building cannot be removed or no interest is shown they will be disposed of by a means approved by the Minister.
