How to get approval to do work within the provincial right-of-way?
You must get an Approval-to-Proceed from TPW's Environmental Management Section (EMS) to conduct work at either:
- Takes place within the provincial right-of-way (eg. Road or culvert construction, water or sewer installation, subdivision construction outside the cities limits of Charlottetown and Summerside); or
- Has potential to impact eh provincial Right-of-way (eg. Landscaping or construction of ditch that directs storm water, sediment, etc. towards a highway ditch.
To get an EMS Approval-to-proceed, fill out an application and mail it to the EMS office. A Department representative will then contact you to review the proposed work prior to issuing an EMS Approval-to-Proceed complete with conditions-of-approval.

How to sign up to the Adopt-A-Highway Program?
Join other island businesses, community organizations and groups in adopting a section of highway and doing your part to help keep the Island clean by conducting annual spring and fall cleanups. The Department of Transportation and Public Works will supply safety vests, litter bags, and road work signs for the cleanup and following the first cleanup by each group, will install Adopt-a-Highway signage displaying the groups name on their adopted section of road.
