Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund (MRIF)
The Canada-PEI Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund (MRIF) improves and increases public infrastructure, namely water and wastewater systems, and cultural and recreation facilities-the very things that make our Island communities vibrant and productive places to live, work and raise families.
The goal of the program is to ensure all Islanders, whether they live in large, small or remote communities, share in the benefits of infrastructure investments. Through Federal, Provincial and Municipal investments, MRIF represents an investment of over $54 million into PEI infrastructure.
The MRIF Management Committee that oversees the administration of the Program is composed of representatives from the Governments of Canada and PEI; the Federation of PEI Municipalities sits as an observer.
Program Description
The purpose of MRIF was to improve urban and rural municipal infrastructure in PEI.
The program priority were green or environmental municipal infrastructure. This included projects to protect and/or enhance the quality of our environment, such as water and wastewater systems, water management, and solid waste management.
A secondary focus was to allow other local infrastructure, including local transportation infrastructure, cultural and recreational infrastructure, supporting tourism, and rural and remote connectivity to benefit as well.
Applications
MRIF has been fully commited. If you have any questions about your project or an application you submitted, please contact the Infrastructure Secretariat.
