Tourism Website French Translation Support Program

Are there any funding dollars available to help operators translate their website?

Program Outline

This program provides support for website French translation services for operators providing services to Francophone visitors on PEI. This will increase the web presence of tourism products and services available in French on PEI.

The increased French web presence will have a direct and positive impact on the quality of tourism services provided in French on PEI.

Eligibility and Application

The following parameters define eligibility for the new program:

  • Operators must have, at a minimum, some staff who can converse in French.
  • Operators will identify whether they provide "French Services" or "Some French Services" as per the Visitor’s Guide.
  • Funds will be used for the translation of existing web sites into French. Funds will not be available to create new web sites. (Development and Technology has a program to support the development of new websites.)
  • Funds may be used to translate French only Acadian tourism product, websites into English.
  • Operators must contribute a minimum of 25% of the total translation costs, with a maximum contribution by Tourism PEI of $750.00.
  • Operators must be active in the tourism industry. They must be members in good standing of either the regional tourism association in their area and/or the Tourism Industry Association of PEI (TIAPEI).
  • All accommodations must be licensed in good standing (inspected, water, occupancy and licensed fees paid).
  • Translation must be contracted to an incorporated/registered company.
  • A quote will be required from the company.
  • Operators will be required to sign off on work completed to their satisfaction.
  • Tourism PEI’s contribution will be paid directly to the company upon receipt of an operator’s work satisfaction form.
  • Operators must clearly represent the level of French service on their websites so the visitor can make informed decisions, including at what times of the year these services are available and if correspondence in French is a service.
  • Funds will be dispersed on a first come first served by regional allocation basis.
