September 14 construction update:

Bonshaw:

Last week:

  • Paving finished gravel surfaces
  • Environmental worklists being addressed; ditching, check dams, hydroseeding, tap drain construction started

This week:

  • Start cut in existing highway towards Bonshaw bridge
  • Continue work required on enviro lists
  • Ensure controls are monitored and adjusted as required at Bonshaw park


New Haven:

Last week:

  • Paving, gravelling and guardrail being placed
  • Environmental worklists being addressed; ditching, check dams, hydroseeding, placing additional controls to deal with flow towards inlet of box
  • Culvert removals conducted as per DFO compensation plans

This week:

  • Continue work required on enviro lists
  • Grading and start of paving from Encounter Creek to Cameron Road
  • Additional controls to be installed in north ditch that leads to box inlet in advance of potential rain events

  • Issue at Crosby Road sediment pond addressed and repaired

This week:

  • Gravelling and paving finished gravel surface
  • Continue work required on environmental lists


New Haven:

  • Paving, gravelling and guardrail placed
  • Water trucks required to keep dust down
  • Environmental worklists being addressed, ditching, check dams, hydroseeding

This week:

  • Continue work required on enviro lists
  • Gravelling finished areas














August 24 construction update:

Bonshaw:

  • Milling operations towards bridge
  • Gravel being placed on finished roadbed and paving
  • Water trucks required to keep dust down
  • Some hydroseeding of finished slopes, outstanding hydroseeding and environmental worklists given to contractor

This week:

  • Continue cutting/wasting along existing TCH
  • Paving finished gravel surface

New Haven:

Last week:

August 11 construction update:

  • Excavating and placing material through Encounter Creek to Cameron Road
  • Placing gravel on finished roadbed, fine grading for asphalt paving

  • Ditching

July 15 construction update:

Bonshaw:

Last week:


  • Cut and fill operations next to the CBC tower
  • Excess excavated material being disposed of at approved locations
  • Water trucks keeping dust down

This week:

  • Continue cutting and waste disposal
  • Stabilize finished slopes through hydroseeding


New Haven:

Last week:


  • Excavating and disposing of material through cut west of box
  • Continued monitoring of Belted Kingfisher nest
  • Water trucks keeping dust down
  • Hydroseeding of finished slopes

This week:

  • Continue cut and fill operations west of box and stabilize slopes through hydroseeding
  • Continue monitoring Kingfisher nest area
  • Realign Crawfords Stream as per direction/input received from the provincial freshwater fisheries biologist


June 25 construction update:


Bonshaw:

Past week:


  • Earth work continued – earth dug (“cut”) from one area of the project is being used to build up (“fill”) other areas.

This week:

  • Cut and fill work will continue.
  • Installation of rock check dams in ditches as they are brought to grade, to coincide with cut operations.
  • Installation of additional sediment ponds.


New Haven:

Past week:

  • Excavation work on the box culvert at Crawford’s Brook continued.
  • Excavation and ditching work on the new Peters Road, which will connect the new alignment with the existing road, continued.
  • Hydroseeding, a method of planting grass seed with a high germination rate that is an effective erosion control measure, continued on the finished slopes.

This week:

  • Excavation work on the box culvert at Crawford's Brook will continue.
  • Work on the new Peters Road corner which includes shaping and hydroseeding will be completed.
