Motor Vehicle Registration Services
- Proof of vehicle ownership is required for registration. The vehicle permit, proof of insurance and motor vehicle inspection report are the documents you need. Notice of transfers of ownership must be filed with Highway Safety within 7 days of purchase.
- A vehicle purchased outside of the province may be registered in Prince Edward Island prior to entry. Clearance from customs must be presented with application for registration if the vehicle was purchased or previously registered in a foreign country.
- Non-residents must register a vehicle in Prince Edward Island after four months on a reciprocal basis. Plates must be purchased within 10 days if employment is obtained.
- Prince Edward Island residents who are out of province and must register their vehicle can use the on-line registration service (the toll-free number can only be used within Prince Edward Island).
How much is the annual fee to register a private passenger vehicle, taxicab, or truck under 4100 kg?
