Introducing the Minister

Honourable Paula J. Biggar

Minister of Transportation, Infrastructure and Energy and
Minister responsible for the Status of Women

Paula Biggar was first elected to the Legislature of Prince Edward Island in the provincial election held on May 28, 2007, and re-elected on October 3, 2011 and May 4, 2015. She was elected Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly on July 6, 2007, and re-elected to that position on November 1, 2011. She was appointed to cabinet on May 20, 2015.

She has served as Chair of the Standing Committee for Privileges, Rules and Private Bills; Chair of the Standing Committee for Agriculture , Environment and Energy; and, Chair of the Standing Committee of Health, Social Development and Seniors. She has also served as a Member of the Standing Committee on Community and Intergovernmental Affairs; the Standing Committee on Public Accounts; and the Legislative Management Committee.

A Liberal MLA, she was elected to represent the constituency of Tyne Valley - Linkletter. The district has a very diverse make up of primary industries including farming and fishing, a thriving aerospace industry, small businesses and a large First Nations Community.

Paula Biggar is a graduate of the University of Prince Edward Island with a Diploma in Public Administration. Prior to being elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly, she was an Educational Assistant with the Western School Board.

A life-long resident of Prince County, she has been a Municipal Councillor and community volunteer in many areas of community life, including the Tyne Valley and Area Development Corporation, Friends of Stewart Memorial Hospital, Women’s Institute, Home and School Association, and various youth groups.

She lives in Bideford with her husband, Dale. They have two married daughters and three grandchidren.
