Roadbuilders are key partners in keeping the traveling public safe and the Island economy moving, Transportation, Infrastructure and Energy Minister Paula Biggar said Friday.

Speaking to the annual meeting of the PEI Roadbuilders Association, the minister said Island roadbuilders are government’s main partner in delivering the $25.5 million in roadwork and improvements planned for the 2016 construction year.

“I am proud of the design work being carried out by staff of my department but we all recognize that our work depends on the efforts of Prince Edward Island’s construction industry. You consistently deliver a high-quality reliable service,” she said.

“The highways of PEI stand as a testament to the skill of hard-working Islanders.” Founded in 1962, the PEI Road Builders and Heavy Construction Association, counts 19 companies among its members – representing business in every region of the Island.

The Minister said she has recently met with federal Transport Minister Marc Garneau and with Infrastructure and Communities Minister Amarjeet Sohi and is looking forward to learning details of infrastructure funding programs that will let provincial, municipal and federal governments partner on important public construction projects.
