The Land and Environment Division provides a wide range of environmental services for both public works and transportation related projects. The Division also oversees highway construction and maintenance activities to ensure compliance with Federal and Provincial environmental legislation and regulations. Division staff develop and provide training to staff and the construction industry on policies, programs and guidelines to be followed on highway construction and maintenance projects. This division is also responsible for provincial lands.

WHAT WE DO
The role of the Properties Section is four fold: to provide high quality and timely policy advice to the Government of Prince Edward Island on all matters relating to Provincial Lands (rail lands/public roads), to provide quality services to all out clients in the areas of Provincial Land Management, to manage the Provinces real property assets to their "highest and best use"; and to stimulate and/or support the economy of Prince Edward Island. Our clients include the public-at-large, departmental staff, other Government departments and agencies, federal Government, municipal Governments, legal profession and land surveyors.

Environmental Management
WHAT WE DO
This Section is an environmental management unit providing environmental quality control and assurance for Department activities and initiatives. This Section is responsible to ensure continued environmental management and regularity compliance during construction and maintenance works performed by the Department or by others within the Provincial right-of way. The Section also plays a key role in addressing a variety of public issues relative to environmental management including environmental assessments and studies, and program / policy development.

Surveys
WHAT WE DO
Appointed by the Lieutenant-Governor as provided under the Land Survey Act, the Chief Surveyor is responsible for maintaining a cadastral infrastructure. that sustains security of land tenure thereby promoting secure economic development and prosperity in the province.
Legislative responsibilities include maintenance of the provincial survey reference system, reviewing survey plans prepared under the Condominium Act and Oil and Natural Gas Act, providing as alternative to resolving boundary uncertainties (Boundary Disputes), and providing counsel and guidance on property related matters.
The Chief Surveyor as a licensed land surveyor, is also a part of a specialized team within the Department of Transportation and Public Works providing timely and efficient land and engineering services primarily for the Department as well as all other government departments and agencies.
