 Factoid of the Day

The British expulsion of the Acadians from Port-La-Joye took place in 1758.

 Today in Island History

On July 30 in Island history...

1780 Governor Patterson, an Irishman, forwards to Britain an act re-naming St. John's Island "New Ireland." The act is disallowed because the name is already taken and, besides, the colony should petition for a change, not legislate one. The Island isn't crazy about Britain's suggestions: New Guernsey or New Anglesea.
