On April 24 in Island history...

1913 Despite widespread opposition in rural areas, the Legislature votes to allow Island motorists on the road on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Horace Wright of Bedeque speaks for many Islanders: "We're going to keep them cars out if we have to take a pitchfork and drive it through them!"
