On April 19 in Island history...

1893 Prince Edward Island loses its upper house when the Legislative Council is merged with the House of Assembly to form the Legislative Assembly. The new arrangement is unique in Canada: 15 dual ridings each elect one "Councillor" and one "Assemblyman."
