On November 27 in Island history...

1899 Charles Coghlen, founder of an actor's colony at Fortune, dies in Galveston, Texas. A great storm washes his body out of Lakeview Cemetery. The Daily Examiner reports its recovery, but Ripley later claims Coghlen floated clear back to Fortune. Believe It or Not!

Plastic debris is hazardous to wildlife. According to the World Society for the Protection of Animals, each year more than two million birds, turtles, whales, dolphins and seals become entangled in floating plastic debris, or mistake it for food.
