Province releases August tourism numbers

Tourism is a vital industry in Prince Edward Island that provides over 7,000 full-time equivalent jobs for Islanders and accounts for seven per cent of provincial GDP.

Figures released today by the province show tourism performance for the month of August was very similar to the same month last year with growth in bridge traffic, cruise ship and motor coach visits.

The PEI 2014 New Year’s Eve Opening Celebrations will kick off on New Year's Eve with a free, family-friendly outdoor event and an indoor, ticketed concert headlined by Juno Award winning artist Johnny Reid.

Heritage designations awarded to fifteen lighthouses across Prince Edward Island today will help ensure they will be preserved as an important part of the Island’s history for years to come.

The new $24 million Prince Edward Convention Centre has officially opened for business on the historic Charlottetown waterfront. The new 35,000 square foot facility will support the Island's growing meetings and convention sector.

Island: the Collected Stories by Canadian author Alistair MacLeod has been chosen as this year’s selection for One Book One Island, a campaign to encourage reading and literacy with Islanders.
