Book PEI proving itself an important online tool

Book PEI experienced a thirteen per cent increase in online billings as more accommodation operators sign up for the service. Currently, about 30% of available operators are signed up.

The provincial online accommodation booking system known as Book PEI is proving to be a major benefit to hundreds of Island tourism operators with nearly $18 million in total billings in 2012, both online and off line. Book PEI allows potential visitors to book their vacation online once they decide to visit the Island.

Excitement is building as planning continues for the PEI 2014 celebrations. Islanders are showing their enthusiasm for 2014 as evidenced by the 550 applications received for the 2014 Fund.

New funding from the Governments of Prince Edward Island and Canada will support efforts to recognize and celebrate the 150th anniversary of the historic Charlottetown Conference in 2014.

A record 75 cruise ship visits are booked for 2013 as the Island cruise ship sector continues to accelerate growth in the tourism industry.The cruise ship sector adds approximately $13.4 million to the provincial economy annually and provides a boost for local businesses in the spring and fall shoulder seasons.

The construction of the new Prince Edward Island Convention Centre and the growing excitement ahead of the 2014 celebrations are resulting in unprecedented meetings and conventions bookings for the province with an almost three-fold increase in year to year bookings.
