Convention bookings accelerating ahead of 2014 celebrations

The construction of the new Prince Edward Island Convention Centre and the growing excitement ahead of the 2014 celebrations are resulting in unprecedented meetings and conventions bookings for the province with an almost three-fold increase in year to year bookings.

The rolling green hills and beautiful vistas of Prince Edward Island will play host to Gran Fondo PEI this August, a three day riding adventure drawing cyclists from across Canada.

Province to operate four provincial golf courses in 2013

The golf industry contributes approximately $61 million to the Island's GDP and employs over 2600 Islanders directly and indirectly annually.

The province will continue to operate the four provincially owned golf courses for the 2013 season while negotiations continue with interested parties as part of an RFP process around future management and ownership of the golf courses at Brudenell, Crowbush, Dundarave and Mill River.

A permanent home to the local Visitor Information Centre is among the improvements coming to Harbourfront Theatre in Summerside, thanks to an investment from the Governments of Canada and Prince Edward Island.

New Poet Laureate named

Award-winning Island poet Diane Hicks Morrow has been named as the Island's fifth Poet Laureate.Established in 2002, the Island's Poet Laureate helps to make Islanders aware of the important role that poetry plays in the literary life of the province and to serve as a cultural ambassador.
