Island Art Collection
The Island Art Collection was established in the early 1980s to encourage the development of artistic excellence and stimulate awareness of and interest in visual arts.
The art collection acquires works of art by Prince Edward Island visual artists for display in provincial buildings through purchase, donation, gift or bequest. With the art enhancing the surroundings of public areas of government buildings, it also makes the art accessible to view by the general public, and it is hoped that this exposure to local art might generate interest and encourage people to seek out and purchase works by local artists.
Through the art works and related material, the program celebrates excellence and it preserves, for present and future generations, a history of art making in Prince Edward Island.
