Statistics Canada recently reported that Islanders watch an average of 21.1 hours of television per week. Given the amount of time viewing television programs, some viewers may wonder what actually goes into the making of one. At 8:00 p.m. on December 5, Island Focus television viewers will be taken behind the scenes to meet the crew and learn what is required to put a story together.

Island Focus is the provincial government's community outreach television program delivering valuable information about programs and initiatives of all government departments and agencies. The December 5 broadcast will focus on arts and entertainment in Prince Edward Island with other segments to include Developing the Film and Television Industry in PEI; Smart Students, Smart Schools; and Harnessing the Wind at North Cape. Host, Gerry Birt will be on location at The Buzz, PEI's arts and entertainment newspaper. He will speak with Peter Richards, Managing Editor and Dale MacNevin, a PEI illustrator whose artwork is featured on the December cover of The Buzz.

Viewers are invited to check out the Island Focus website at www.gov.pe.ca/focus to monitor the weekly program guide, meet on-air personalities and crew members, view segments on-line, enter weekly trivia contests and send feedback about the program.

One week remains to enter the program's 2001 trivia contest. The randomly selected winner will be awarded lift passes to the Brookvale Winter Activity Park, valued at $240 and provided by PEI Provincial Parks. The draw will take place December 7, 2001 with the winner announced during the December 19, 2001 broadcast.

Island Focus broadcasts each Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. on EastLink Television. For more information, please contact (902) 368-6322 or send a message to focus@gov.pe.ca.
