“Over the past 15 years, Kaye MacLean has done tremendous work for our rural library system,” said Minister responsible for Libraries, Carolyn Bertram. “Kaye is responsible for both the Murray Harbour and the Murray River Branch Libraries. Under her leadership we have seen many new initiatives developed, including the establishment of a CAP site in Murray Harbour and the construction of a new library building in Murray River.”
This award, which began in 2008, was named in honour of the first provincial librarian Nora Bateson, who travelled throughout the province promoting the concept of community libraries beginning in 1933. By the end of the year Bateson’s efforts began to pay off and five branches were opened. By 1936, 22 branches were operating across the Island.
“Kaye MacLean exemplifies the initiative and commitment to excellence that Nora Bateson stood for,” said Minister Bertram. “On behalf of the Government of Prince Edward Island, and our Provincial Library System, I want to thank Kaye MacLean for all her hard work and dedication to her community libraries.”
