Home and School Federation offering funding through Parent Leadership Grants
Education and Early Childhood Development
The PEI Home and School Federation is providing grants of up to $1,000 to Home and School associations to support parent engagement, says Education and Early Childhood Minister Alan McIsaac.
“Parent involvement leads to student success,” said Minister McIsaac. “Study after study has shown us that when parents play an active role in their children’s education, student achievement improves.”
With funding from the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, the PEI Home and School Federation’s Parent Leadership Grants support a wide range of initiatives that help parents become more involved in their child’s education. The grants create connections between parents, schools and community services and provide parents with skills and resources to support their children’s learning at home.
In past years, these grants have supported successful projects including workshops on math, literacy and visual arts, information sessions and discussions with education, post secondary education preparation, and more.
“Parent engagement matters,” said Home and School Federation President Peter Rukavina. “By funding parent-led, school and community-partnered projects, parents realize that they have an important role to play, that they are valued as education partners and that their opinions matter. This is what Home and School is all about.”
The deadline for grant proposals is January 30, 2015.
