The Grand Tracadie community centre is being given new life with support from the Island Community Fund, says Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development Minister Allen Roach.

“The people of Grand Tracadie take a great deal of pride in their community centre, and look forward to making continued improvements,” said Buck Watts, MLA for Tracadie-Hillsborough Park on behalf of Minister Roach. “I want to commend the Community of Grand Tracadie for its efforts to maintain and improve this facility for the benefit of area residents.”

The project will replace the roof at the former Grand Tracadie school. The Community of Grand Tracadie assumed ownership of the school when it was deemed surplus by the Eastern School District in 2010. The Island Community Fund is contributing $36,150 towards the total cost of $48,205.

With this project, the community group is stabilizing the building in the short term with a plan to complete additional work as budgets allow.

Since 2009, the Island Community Fund has invested close to $20 million to support more than 400 projects in rural Prince Edward Island, with a total project value of over $67 million.
