Skiers and snowboarders will have an extra week on the hills and trails this winter thanks to the abundant snow, says Minister of Tourism and Culture Robert Henderson.

“We’ve heard a lot of interest in an extended season over the last month, and we still have lots of snow, so we’ve decided to keep all our facilities open for an extra week,” said Minister Henderson. “I’m optimistic it will be busy at all our facilities and we encourage Islanders to take advantage of the additional week of skiing.”

The province’s three ski facilities, Brookvale Alpine, Brookvale Nordic and Mill River Nordic will all remain open for normal hours with full service until Sunday March 29, one week longer than normal. Brookvale Nordic and Mill River Nordic will remain open as long as conditions permit until April 6, but ski rental services will not be available after March 29.

“The quality and quantity of snow hasn’t been seen at Brookvale for many years,” said the MLA for Kellys Cross - Cumberland Hon. Valerie E. Docherty. “It’s wonderful that the season can be extended and I know skiers will appreciate the opportunity to have a few more days to enjoy this winter sport.”

Normally the three facilities close for the season on the Sunday at the end of March break.
