Samuel Holland PEI 250 Commemorative Lecture #4 May 14, 2015

The fourth in a series of free lectures commemorating Samuel Holland’s survey of Prince Edward Island will be held Thursday, May 14 at 7 pm in Room 242, McDougall Hall at UPEI.

This lecture is entitled Surveyors of Empire.

Presenting this lecture will be Stephen Hornsby, author and Professor of Geography and Canadian Studies at the University of Maine.

His book Surveyors of Empire examines the development of British military cartography in North America during and after the Seven Years War, as well as advancements in military and scientific equipment used in surveying.

At the same time, he follows the land speculation of leading surveyors, including Samuel Holland.

There is no admission fee for this lecture and everyone is welcome to attend. The lecture is presented by the Samuel Holland 250 Commemorations Committee.
