Island students were recognized yesterday for their outstanding projects at the annual Provincial Heritage Fair, says Minister of Tourism and Culture Robert Henderson.

“I was extremely impressed with the imagination and hard work shown by all students at this year’s Provincial Heritage Fair,” said Minister Henderson. “The projects were well researched, and students did a great job bringing their presentations to life. Everyone that participated should be very proud of their projects, and for discovering a little piece of history in the process.”

In total, 124 projects were on display at this year’s Heritage Fair. Those projects were selected to attend the provincial fair after their individual school fairs. Awards were presented to 12 finalists and three honourable mentions were named. In addition, a number of prizes were awarded that were sponsored by national and local organizations.

The 12 finalists are now invited to participate in the National Young Citizens video contest where they will make short video pieces about their projects. Those pieces will be entered into an on-line contest where individuals can vote for their favourtie. Those projects will be online by June 5th at www.youngcitizens.ca

Two students from the Island will be selected through that contest to attend the National Youth Forum in Ottawa in the fall.
