Double the Response for Queen Elizabeth Celebration Tea

Lieutenant Governor's Office

Their Honours the Honourable Frank Lewis, Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island and Mrs. Dorothy Lewis thank Prince Edward Islanders for their outstanding response to those celebrating their 90th birthday in 2016. More than twice the number expected have called for invitations. Their Honours will now host morning and afternoon teas and regretfully advise the public that they will not be able to accommodate any further requests.

"To seat everyone comfortably and to remain within the limits of fire safety codes of Government House, we are very sorry to say that we have all the guests we are able to handle," says Cindy Cheverie, executive assistant to His Honour. "In the past week, we have received messages from 70 people who are celebrating their 90th birthday in 2016. With their guests, we are at capacity for not one but two celebration teas," added Ms. Cheverie.

Their Honours are hosting the May 24 events as one of several occasions commemorating Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth's 90th birthday. The upcoming tea was announced on the Queen's actual birthday, April 21, at a luncheon organized by the Royal Commonwealth Society.

Those ninety year olds who call after today will still be asked for their contact information to receive mementos of the occasion and will be welcome at future events, including the annual Garden Party scheduled for July 21 on the Fanningbank grounds.

"Their Honours sincerely regret any disappointment felt by those who cannot be accommodated and hope they will take the opportunity to visit Government House at a future date," concluded Ms. Cheverie.
