Annual Government House Garden Party

Lieutenant Governor's Office

Their Honours, the Honourable H. Frank Lewis and Mrs. Dorothy Lewis are pleased to invite the public to their fifth annual Government House Garden Party. Their Honours will greet visitors from 2:00 until 4:00 pm on Thursday, July 21, 2016. Their Honours wish to emphasize that residents and visitors alike are welcome. There is no dress code but visitors are encouraged to dress colourfully for the occasion.

This popular annual tradition is held on the grounds of Fanningbank at the edge of Victoria Park, 1 Terry Fox Drive. Extra seating and tents will be set out for the afternoon. Light refreshments will be available including beverages, a variety of sweets and fresh berries. The popular flower gardens, including the large rose garden, will be accessible for walking and pictures. The Great George Street Brass Band under the direction of Ron Murphy will be providing the music this year.

Other than the day of the garden party, Government House is open for free, bilingual guided tours until the end of August, Monday to Friday, with tours every half hour starting at 10:00am and continuing until 3:30 without appointment. Advance notice of group larger than ten people is always appreciated. Other times for group tours can be arranged by appointment.

Government House has had many distinguished visitors in its 182-year history. The first Royal Visit was in 1860 when the Prince of Wales, later Edward VII was in the city. Most recently, Prince Edward The Earl of Wessex was an overnight guest in November 2015. The front step was the location of the well known photograph of the Fathers of Confederation delegates from 1864.

Visitors to Government House are reminded that parking is limited at all times and restricted on the day of the garden party to those requiring mobility assistance.
