"Focus On Resources" Nominated For National Award

Provincial Treasury

For the second year in a row, the provincial government's community outreach program on cable television, Focus on Resources, has been nominated for a national award — The Golden Sheaf Award.

The Yorkton Short Film and Video Festival, which hands out the awards annually, nominated the program in the Community Cable category. The nominated show from February 16, 1999, featured Seaman's Beverages; the Science and Technology Awareness Site; the Race of The Century with Ben Johnston; the 1999 Tourism Marketing Presentation; the seed potato deal signed in the Ukraine; Lori Kane's Golf for Alzhiemers; the CD-ROM Farm Planner; and coverage of Host Whit Carter and his guests from the Tourism Marketing Campaign Presentation.

The Yorkton Festival, which will be held from May 13-16 in Saskatchewan, is the longest running festival of its kind in Canada, now in it's 52nd year. Over the years, the show has garnered a reputation as one of the country's top film and video festivals. The Golden Sheaf Awards are handed out in 18 genre categories, nine craft categories and four international categories.

"Focus on Resources is an excellent communications tool because Islanders become aware of the issues and concerns associated with Island communities, businesses and government departments in a different way," stated Provincial Treasurer Pat Mella. "Everyone involved with the show should be proud of this nomination and with the hard work that has gone into it."

The Multimedia Services Section of Provincial Treasury is also nominated in the Industrial/Promotional category for the video SOLANUM AND UKRAINE: Developing Food Systems for the World.
