Prince Edward Island Economy Progress Report 2000

Provincial Treasury

Today Patricia Mella, Provincial Treasurer, released the Prince Edward Island Economy, Progress Report 2000. This publication presents the most current information available on the economy of Prince Edward Island, in 2000.

The report notes that the provincial economy is growing at a brisk pace. "The report documents the solid economic performance that the Island is enjoying this year," said Patricia Mella. "It is this evidence coupled with our balanced fiscal performance that led to the Dominion Bond Rating Service upgrade of the Province's credit rating earlier this year."

The Progress Report examines the PEI labour market, prices, tourism, consumer spending, manufacturing, construction, government and the primary industries. The vigorous economic growth of the province has continued in 2000 according to the year-to-date figures. The economic growth on PEI is highlighted by a strong export performance, significant employment gains and rising personal incomes.
