Attorney General Jeffrey E. Lantz Announces Appointments to Queen's Counsel

The Honourable Jeffrey E. Lantz, Attorney General announced today four new appointments of Her Majesty's Counsel by the Lieutenant Governor in Council.

Named to the Queen's Counsel is Wendy E. Reid, M. Lynn Murray, Gerald K. Quinn, and Douglas R. Drysdale.

"I am pleased to acknowledge the contributions of these individuals as leaders in the legal community of Prince Edward Island, through the honourary distinction of Queen's Counsel," says Attorney General Lantz.

Wendy E. Reid is a partner with Patterson Palmer in Charlottetown where her practise focusses on commercial and real property law. She was called to the Bar on March 30, 1984. She is an active participant in a number of professional organizations including the Canadian Bar Association, the Advisory Committee on Judicial Appointments, and the Canadian Bar Insurance Association. Throughout her career, she has also served as President of the PEI Branch of the Canadian Bar Association, a National Executive Member of the Canadian Bar Association and a member of the Law Foundation of PEI. Ms. Reid is also active in her community, acting as a director with the Murchison Foundation Inc. and as a judge with the Canadian Figure Skating Association.

M. Lynn Murray is a partner with the Charlottetown Office of Cox Hanson O'Reilly Matheson. She was admitted to the Bar on June 1, 1984. Her practise encompasses a variety of areas including civil litigation, labour, employment law and administrative law. She has also acted as arbitrator on a number of labour matters. She is an active member of the Law Society of Prince Edward Island and the Canadian Bar Association. Ms. Murray is also a lecturer for the Bar Admission Course on Discipline and a council member of the Law Society of Prince Edward Island. She has served as Chair to the PEI Labour Relations Board, Chair of the Litigation Section of the PEI Branch of the Canadian Bar Association and as a member of the PEI Supreme Court Rules Committee.

Gerald K. Quinn is a Crown Attorney with the Office of the Attorney General. He was admitted to the Bar on May 30, 1986. Before joining the Office of the Attorney General, he was an associate lawyer with Foster O'Keefe Barristers and Solicitors in Charlottetown, where he practised real property and estate law, insurance law, family law, labour law, administrative law and civil litigation. His community involvement includes being inducted as a Knight of the Order of St. John.

Douglas R. Drysdale is a partner in Carr, Stevenson & MacKay in Charlottetown. He was admitted to the Bar on September 5, 1986, and presently concentrates on administrative law, civil litigation and real property in his practise. He is also an active member of the Council of the Law Society of Prince Edward Island and the PEI Branch of the Canadian Bar Association. He is past president of the Canadian Bar Association and has chaired the Mental Health Review Board since December 1999. His community involvement includes volunteering with numerous non-profit and charitable organizations and as a member of the Kinsmen Club. He has also served as President of Queens County Residential Services and the PEI Lung Association.

"Each of these individuals has made significant contributions to the legal community of Prince Edward Island and served Islanders through both their professional and community involvement," says Attorney General Lantz. "It is my distinct pleasure to offer each of them my personal congratulations."

In accordance with the Legal Profession Act, members of the Law Society of Prince Edward Island are appointed Queen's Counsel upon the recommendation of the Queen's Counsel Recommendations Committee. This committee is made up of the president, a member in good standing appointed by the council, one person appointed by the Attorney General, a justice of the Supreme Court of Prince Edward Island, and a judge of the Provincial Court of Prince Edward Island.
