Office of the Attorney General Warns of Unlicensed Company Soliciting Investments in the Province

Office of the Attorney General

The Securities Office of the Office of the Attorney General is warning the public that it has become aware of an unlicensed company which is soliciting investment in Prince Edward Island. Universal Brokerage Services Ltd. has been faxing Islanders suggesting investment returns of 200 per cent in less than 30 days.

Although the company name is not indicated in the fax, calling a toll-free number connects you with the answering service for Universal Brokerage Services Ltd. An agent of Universal Brokerage Services will return your call and aggressively pitch investing in money markets. Although Universal indicates that it is located in Nassau, Bahamas, the Securities Office has determined that the phone call is based in Miami, Florida.

Universal Brokerage Services Ltd. is not registered under the Securities Act in the Province of Prince Edward Island and no salesperson is registered to sell securities on behalf of the company in this province. The sale of securities in Prince Edward Island is governed by the Securities Act.

The Securities Office requests that anyone who has been in contact with this company or who has information about the company please contact Mark Gallant, Deputy Registrar of Securities at 368-4552.
