Minister Currie Officially Opens EasTech Business Centre

Development and Technology

Premier Pat Binns and Development and Technology Minister Mike Currie, together with Randy Angus of the Cardigan Community Development Association, officially opened the EasTech Business Centre this morning.

EasTech's focus is to integrate information and communications technology into the community while offering business clients access to state of the art facilities, products and services. EasTech's services include a "smart boardroom" which provides video conferencing equipment is available to rent. Staff at the centre will provide administrative and technical support.

EasTech will also serve as a Community Access Program (CAP) site which will offer access, basic training and support for Internet users.

EasTech is one of three rural IT centres in the province. One centre is already open in Kensington; a second is under development in O'Leary.

"Rural IT centres like EasTech provide a level playing field for businesses and communities outside the Island's major centres. In order to compete these days, it is important for people to have access to the very latest in technology and support. This is the aim of our rural IT program," said Minister Currie

EasTech will also feature a Web site which will promote local products and services.

"We are pleased as a community to be able to be part of a project that brings so much potential to Eastern PEI," said Randy Angus. "The future has arrived in rural PEI and we are ready for it."

EasTech will also provide space for businesses to use for training . Part of the building will be offered as rental property to local businesses.

Support for this project and other rural IT centres is provided by Technology PEI.

Technology PEI is the Government of Prince Edward Island's lead agency in the development, adoption and use of information technologies in business and community in the province.
